As soon as the temperatures rise and the smell of barbecue spreads, many automatically think of rosé or white wine. But did you know that certain red wines also come into their own when served lightly chilled? Fresh, juicy, digestible – and surprisingly versatile with grilled dishes!
Ideal serving temperature: 14 to 16°C – 15 minutes in the refrigerator is often enough.
We selected four characterful red wines that go perfectly with a summer barbecue:
🍷 Les Escures – Mas del Périé (Cahors, France)
Malbec in its purest form – organic & elegant
✅ Pairing: grilled sirloin steak with chimichurri
💡 This biodynamic Malbec is juicy, spicy and silky smooth. Lightly chilled, the fruity side comes out even more.
🍷 Les Grimaudes – M. Kreydenweiss (Gard, France)
Blend of Grenache & Syrah – supple & floral
✅ Pairing: Provencal vegetable skewers or grilled halloumi
💡 An approachable natural wine with herbs in the nose and a fresh structure. Ideal with vegetarian dishes.
🍷 Dolcetto d’Alba – Luciano Sandrone (Piedmont, Italy)
Red fruit, soft tannins, typical Italian
✅ Pairing: Italian sausages or a classic hamburger
💡 Light-bodied, fruity and lively – chilled a delight with heavier dishes without being overpowering.
🍷 Spätburgunder – Battenfeld Spanier (Rheinhessen, Germany)
Pinot Noir with finesse and fresh acidity
✅ Pairing: salmon on the BBQ or pulled pork
💡 An elegant Pinot that lets its delicate aromas and fresh acidity speak even better when chilled.
